Information on Elk Grove:

Elk Grove is a major city in Northern California, located just a bit south of Sacramento, the state capital and a huge part of the Sacramento Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The second most populated city in all of Sacramento County, the city is home to just over 169,000 people and was considered to be the fastest growing city in the United States in the early 2000’s.

Originally established by Spanish explorers, Spanish writers on an initial expedition that “discovered” the Sacramento Valley wrote romantically of the land, the water, and the vistas that have become such a major part of this community.

In 1850 (right around the height of the Californian Gold Rush) Elk Grove became a major force in the economy of California, acting as a critical stage and later railway stop for visitors traveling between Sacramento and San Francisco.

Later, after the gold rush died down, this community became more of an agriculturally focused community – at least until Sacramento really started to explode and grow in the 1980s. Today, Elk Grove is one of the most exciting places to set down roots in all of California and certainly still one of its most beautiful cities.

At the same time, with such a large and active population, and with Sacramento just a short drive away, there is plenty of traffic and plenty of congestion along Elk Grove roadways.

California State Route 99 runs smack dab through the middle of this community, and US Route 5 runs along the westernmost outskirts of Elk Grove. Both highways lead directly into Sacramento just to the south, making them incredibly popular for commuters as well as those that are traveling through the northern part of California and headed into the South.

This inevitably leads to a significant amount of traffic accidents and traffic incidents. In 2015 alone, 827 individuals were reported to have either been injured or killed in an automobile accident, with sixteen of them riding motorcycles and forty-eight of them riding bicycles.

A fair share of these accidents involved people traveling at high speeds, with sixty-three of these accidents occurring during the nighttime hours of between 9 PM and 3 AM. Fifty-three hit and runs were reported to have occurred during 2015, with all of these statistics pulled from the Office of Traffic Safety.

Elk Grove is not the same small town it once was, and with the population explosion in Elk grove and Sacramento, more accidents continue to occur.
