Both Rocklin and Auburn, California are in the Western most part of Placer County, and both are part of the major metropolitan community of Sacramento.
Auburn is the smaller community of the two, with a population of just about 14,000 (Rocklin has a population of just over 55,000), but both communities exploded right after the California Gold Rush of 1849. It’s likely that legendary American explorer and trapper Jedediah Smith was the first to settle these communities (establishing villages that would help support their forays into the wild), and after the initial fever of the Gold Rush waned the granite mining operations exploded.
Today, however, both communities are bustling suburbs of the Sacramento city area and support a lot of the commuters that travel from these communities to Sacramento for work on a daily basis. Enjoying an “almost always summer” Mediterranean climate, these communities are great places to set down roots and start a family in – but during the wet season (a stretch of three months during the winter) the roads can get a little bit dangerous.
